Depending on the college, a Master’s degree in accounting should take between one and two years to complete if classes are taken full time.

Graduate Degree in Accounting – Masters Prerequisites & Courses of Study

Students with an undergraduate degree in accounting should be able to finish a Masters degree program in the same discipline faster than a student without a background in accounting coursework. Graduate accounting students enrolled in programs with specialties, like the Department of Accounting and Information Systems at Virginia Tech’s Pamplin College of Business, can expect to choose one advanced accounting discipline in which to specialize. Students with access to a specialized program may be able to choose among assurance, audit, financial services, information systems, or tax specialties. Other universities may prescribe a single course of study for all masters of accounting students.
